Word for the Week ~ 4/29/2019
Sunday was a special day as we gathered in the aftermath of Easter. I appreciated so much the message that Logan Williams shared from Hebrews chapter four on “The Rest of Christ,” and the music that so complemented it. We will be continuing with Hebrews 4:14ff this coming Lord’s day as we answer the question as to whether Jesus Christ was genuinely tempted in the same ways that we are today. It was wonderful to witness the baptism Sunday of Tyler Woodrum and Kristen Smith in the second service.
UCM DAY/Special Commissioning: We are excited to announce that just this Sunday, May 5th, we will be celebrating UCM DAY at Grover. We are asking everyone this Sunday to wear Red and Black (UCM’s Colors) as we have a special Commissioning Service for Dr. Roger Best and his wife, Robin. Dr. Best was inaugurated as the new 16th President of the University of Central Missouri on April 18, 2019. In honor of both him and our beloved university, we are taking this special time to celebrate the occasion. Roger has been at UCM since 1995 when he came as a new assistant professor of finance. Since that time, he was named chair of the Department of Economic and Finance in 2003, Associate Dean of the Harmon College of Business Administration in 2008, and in 2011 he became Dean of the newly formed Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies. In August of 2018, he became the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for the University. His new role now as President of the University is one for which we believe God will continue to use Roger in an amazing way. Don’t miss this special and historic service as Roger shares a few special words with our church.
