Word for the Week ~ 3/1/2021

Greetings,

Sunday:  We definitely had a record 2021 attendance here yesterday for Worship and Sunday School at 9:00 a.m.   After a yearlong “Covid-winter” forcing many people to stay home, it is good to see so many coming back to church.  The extra seats in the Worship Center were welcomed, and it was so good to see such a great group of children in Sunday School.  It is interesting to hear people comment as they come back to church about how wonderful it is to hear the “live music” and preaching again.  While we have appreciated so much our Livestream ministry, there is still nothing like experiencing the real thing liveand in person.  The difference is like going to a liveconcert versus watching it at home on TV.  I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it all happen Sunday.  We had a great group here Thursday night setting up chairs, and Roger and Michelle Dumas, Benjamin Kirtley, Melissa Plummer, and Rebecca Norton did a wonderful job getting things ready for our Children’s Sunday School launch.  We continue to pray for those who are unable to attend and are thankful for our Livestream ministry available to them.  The theme of the service Sunday was how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things as illustrated in Jesus’ calling of the twelve disciples from Luke 6:12-17.  This coming Sunday we will be continuing that theme as we look at the second group of disciples that Jesus called to do His great work. Come join us LIVE, but only if you can. 🙂

Week of Prayer for North American Missions:  This Sunday, March 7th, we will begin our Week of Prayer for North American Missions that will continue through March 14th.  You will receive a Prayer Guide this Sunday in your bulletin.  We have set a goal as a church of raising $5,000 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering that will culminate on Easter Sunday, April 4th.  None of this money goes to our church.  One hundred percent of the offering is used to support over the 5000 missionaries and 3800 chaplains in North America.  Approximately 269 million people in North America do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  This offering will be used to that end of sharing the gospel of Jesus here at home.

Women’s Retreat Deadline:  Today is the deadline for signing up for theLadies Annual Spring Retreat.  We have 79 signed up already.  Call the office today to register or you may sign up on the Women’s Ministry Facebook page. The retreat is scheduled for this Saturday, March 6th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The group will be gathering at Milestones Barn on Hwy 13 just north of Warrensburg. The conference will be led this year by Jamie Hoos and Christie Hoagland. The title and theme of the retreat is “Broken and Poured Out,” taken from a study of Luke chapter 7. Contact Marcile Lewis at marcile747@yahoo.com or call her at (660) 909-2614 for more information.

The Journey Group will be meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. as Rhonda McKee, Ryan Myers, and Matt Argotsinger continue their series entitled, “The Struggles of Life and Godliness.”

Prayer Updates:  Pray for Linda Hargenrader as she hopes to come home from Saint Luke’s today depending on how her scans and tests come back.  She is struggling with weakness from her cancer and has chosen not to proceed with any more chemo treatments.  Pray for Gary as well.  Pray for Dave Robinson who is scheduled for a follow-up appointment tomorrow on March 2 to get the results from his recent prostate biopsy.  Continue to pray for Sharon Baum’s sister, Dawn, as she struggles with the fact that she is back on dialysis due her body’s rejection of her new kidney.   Pray for Lee Johnson who is home recovering from heart bypass surgery. Pray for Jackie Thomas’ grandson, Jordan, whose wife just had a late term miscarriage. Pray for the search committee. Pray for George and Judy Clossin who are both having tests at the hospital today and Wednesday.  Pray for Karen Hill who is recovering from ankle surgery.  Pray for Brenda Collin’s sister-in-law who has a new pacemaker.  Pray for Greg Greer who is regulating his sugar.  Pray for Victoria who is in language school.  The Deacon of the Week is Dan Sliger (405) 219-9281.

Men’s Bible Study This Thursday:  We will be continuing our Men’s Bible Study this Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Bryan Watson is leading the group through the “Life of David.”  The study will last for four more weeks and meets every Thursday night in the Family Life Center. New “Selfie” Church Directory:  During the month of March, we will be updating our church directory, and we would love to have you be a part. Whether you are a member of our church or one of our visitors, we want you to participate. Please submit an email to gpbconline@gmail.com with your latest contact information and a “Selfie” picture of you and/or your family. If you do not have the capability to send a picture to us, we will be glad to take a picture of you or digitalize a picture that you already have. We will be distributing hard copies of the directory in April to all of those who participate.

Ministry Team Meeting:  We will be having a Ministry Team Meeting on March 24th at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.

Ordinance of the Lord’s Supper:  On Palm Sunday, March 28th, we will be observing the Lord’s Supper as part of our preparation for Easter.  Plan now to join us for this special service of worship.  We will be using the self-contained cups as a safety precaution.

Have a great week,

Pastor Randy
