Word for the Week ~ 4/27/2020

Greetings,

Sunday was a full day as we met for rehearsals, worship, Leadership Meeting, and the Board of Directors meeting.  I arrived at church as I always do about 6:45 a.m. and didn’t leave until about 1:15 p.m.  Whew!  It was a good day, though, and all of our services and meetings went well.  Larry Cox, our Finance Committee chairman, shared with the us that our church has been doing a wonderful job in faithfully meeting the financial needs of our church and supporting our mission endeavors and our Building Fund.  God is so good, and our church is the best!  Thanks to our Worship and AV Teams for all of their long hours and hard work.

Start Up Date:  Last Friday Governor Parsons announced that he was going to extend the “State of Emergency Declaration” for Missouri through June 15th, but that he was not going to extend the “Stay at Home Order” which ends on May 3rd.  This week his administration is going to lay out a number of detailed guidelines as to how churches and businesses should reopen on May 4th.  With some of those uncertainties still before us, and a lot of preparation yet to do, our Leadership Team decided yesterday not to set a date quite yet as to when we will start back up with public worship.   My best guess is that we will kick things off in mid to late May.

Between now and then, we will continue to Livestream our services every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.  You may watch services and messages on our website at groverpark.org, on Facebook Live, or on YouTube.  Just search Grover Park Baptist Church in Warrensburg, MO.  People are now reporting having less problems watching services online.

Our Leadership Team is set to meet again next Sunday at 10:30 a.m., with the hope of determining a date in May for which we will resume public services.  Once again, we will be starting back up slowly with worship only, and no Sunday school for at least the first Sunday or so.  We will most definitely be practicing “social distancing” as we get started back up by sitting four chairs apart (except for families) and taking out every other row of chairs.  We will continue to forego our normal greeting time in the service prior to the announcements, and we will not be shaking hands.   Our goal is to take every precaution we can as we prepare to resume public worship in May.

Start Up Survey:  In order to assist our Leadership Team in its preparation for getting our church started back up, we are asking you to consider filling out an enclosed survey to give us an idea of some of the expectations you have in rebooting our church services and Sunday School.  You may participate in one of several ways.  You may fill out the attached survey and simply email it back to us at pastorloganw@gmail.com.  Or, you may click on the link below to fill out the survey online.  If you do not have the capability of doing the survey on a computer, we have copies available in the church office for you to pick up or have mailed to you on request.  If you plan to participate, please do so this week before Friday so that our Leadership Team will be able to look at the results before its meeting on Sunday.  Thank you for your help.   Survey link:  www.GroverPark.org/survey.

Some of our Sunday School Classes are having their classes online.  If that is something you would like to do, please contact Logan Williams or Roger Dumas for instructions and guidance.  While we will not be restarting Sunday school with our first worship service as mentioned above, we are committed to restarting Sunday school as soon as possible.  Please watch for an announcement of a special teachers and workers meeting soon.  It’s intent will be to discuss some of the social distancing issues that we will need to put in place before Sunday School reboots.

Important Emails and Mail Outs:   As we continue to move closer to starting services back up, we will be sharing with you some very important information as to what to expect when that time comes.  We will be doing so through my Word for the Week, our Monthly Newsletter which goes out this week for May, and on Facebook.  As I shared last week, since we are not having our regular Wednesday night suppers and services, we are emailing our Mid-Week Prayerlines and announcements to you on Wednesday afternoons.  If you have updates for the list, be sure to call the church office before noon on Wednesdays so we can include them.  If you are not getting the Word for the Week or the Wednesday Prayerlines/Announcements, or our Church Newsletter, please call the church office at (660) 747-7196 and give us your information or fill out an online connection card at GroverPark.org.

The Journey will be meeting tonight online through “Zoom” at 6:00 p.m. for game night.

New Women’s Bible Study:  The GPBC Women’s Ministry (Women With Purpose) will be kicking off a Bible Study using Zoom on Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm starting on May 5, 2020.  They will be joining together online to walk through the Bible Study “Better”, a 10-week video series of a verse-by-verse study in Hebrews by Jen Wilkin.  The Study Book that accompanies the study is $15.00.  You may register on our Women’s Ministry Facebook page “Grover Park Baptist Church Women With Purpose” or by email at gpbcwomen@gmail.com to sign up for the Study.  Additional information about the study will be posted in an upcoming email and on their Facebook page.

Vacation Bible School Clinic:  We will be hosting the Annual Associational VBS Clinic online at Grover in mid-May.  If you are planning to work in Vacation Bible School this year, this will be an ideal resource for you to get ahead on your preparations. VBS is presently scheduled for July 12-17.  Let Teresa Collins or Sandra Silkwood know if you are planning to attend.

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Randy
