Word for the Week ~ 4/8/2019

W

Greetings,

Sunday was a really great day of worship for our church as 400 strong gathered to celebrate our Lord’s supremacy and to fix our thoughts upon Him.  The music complemented the theme of the sermon so well, to say nothing of the tremendous offertory.  What a blessing it was to witness the baptism of Dr. Stephen and Mrs. Kevin Mukembo at the beginning of the second service.  This Sunday is Palm Sunday for which we will be sharing the Lord’s Supper in both services as we look at Hebrews 3:7-19.

We just completed our Week of Prayer for North American Missions (March 31-April 7th). We have now received $2,624.00 towards our goal of raising $4,000.00 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offeringwhich will culminate on Easter Sunday, April 21st.  Prayerfully consider your role in helping us reach North America for the cause of Christ.

Missions Festival:  This Wednesday night, April 10th, we will also be having our Annual Missions Festival in the Worship Center at 6:30 p.m.  Rev Robin Dale and Dr. Terrence Moody will be our special guest speakers.  We will have many exhibits set up in the foyer of the Worship Center reflecting all of the many ways we focus on missions here at Grover.  Pray for our team of 11 people who are scheduled to go on the Haiti Mission Trip on May 14th and return on May 23rd. Pray that the unrest in the country will be completely defused by the time we are ready to leave.

Memory Monday will meet today at 2:30 p.m. in The Park. It is really a great time as our students come to receive help with school homework, play games, memorize Scripture, and share a great time of food and fellowship with the other students. Please encourage your youth in grades 6-12 to come join the fun. Call Logan for more information at (225) 963-0236.

The Journey Group will be meeting tonight, April 8, at the church at 6:00 p.m. to head over to the Neal household for dinner and discussion. Pastor Logan will be continuing their study on the “Foundations of the Faith.” Call Rhonda McKee at (660) 441-7338 for more information.

Men’s Bible Study: Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 6:30 a.m., we will be continuing our Men’s Bible Study entitled, “Not A Fan” in the Family Life Center. Donuts and coffee will be served.

Men’s Prayer Time:  Speaking of men, this Saturday, April 13th, we will be having our second Men’s Prayer Time in the Family Life Center at 7:30 a.m. We had a great group attend last Saturday, and we have plenty of room for you.  Contact Dan Sliger for more information (405) 219-9281.

Wednesday Night Supper: This Wednesday night on April 10th, we will have our Wednesday night supper and Missions Festival as shared above.  With supper beginning at 5:30 p.m., our Missions Festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.  The menu for supper will be BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, pasta salad, and cake baked from scratch.  The children will be having a special WNL at 6:15 p.m., for which they will be discussing and learning about missions.

Church Directories Are Ready:  We are sorry that we ran out of Church Directories last week.  This Sunday we will have more printed and you will be able to pick up your new Church Directory that we updated during the month of March.  Whether you are a member of our church or one of our visitors, we want you to receive a copy for your family as a means of helping you to become better acquainted with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ at Grover.

Easter Extravaganza: In just one week from this coming Saturday we will be having the City-Wide Easter Egg Hunt here at the church on April 20th at 10:00 a.m. It is always a great time of testimony to our community as we share this time with them, and also proclaim the true meaning of Easter to the children of Warrensburg. Plan now to attend by wearing your Grover Park T-Shirt. If you do not have one, they are available in the office foyer.

Easter Sunday:  Easter is just one week from this Sunday on April 21st.  It will be a really great day with the Easter Chorale singing in both services.  With more people participating in Sunday School than ever before, we have been having more over-crowding in our parking lots. We would like to ask some of our members on Easter morning to consider parking at the Community Center to allow more parking for our many visitors that Sunday. When people visit us and cannot find a parking place, they tend to become discouraged and just leave. We could all help out a great deal by some of us parking “remote” if that is a possibility this one Sunday. Thank you so much for your flexibility.

As I shared above, the Easter Chorale will be singing on Easter Sunday, and we would love for you to consider singing this year with the group.  There will be two special rehearsals that you will need to attend on April 9th and 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.

We will be collecting 1000 cookies for Easter Extravaganza that we will be handing out to the parents and their children. Let us know if you could provide a couple of dozen.  They need to be brought by the church office by Thursday, April 18th at 5:00 p.m.

Attention All Graduating Seniors: We will be having our High School Senior and College Graduate Recognition on Sunday, May 5th, at 10:30 a.m. in the second Worship Service. If you have a son or daughter who will be graduating from high school, we need their pictures from birth to present for the special video we will be creating for that day. Please turn them into the church office ASAP.

We will be having Baby Dedication this year on Mother’s Day, May 12th. If you have a child you would like to dedicate to the Lord, please contact the church office by the end of this month. Tammy will share with you the information we need to have from you for the event.

We are excited to announce that we are beginning this month a new Community Outreach Ministry on Sunday afternoons for which Logan and I will be leading and participating. The first event will take place on April 14th at 3:00 p.m. for which we will be handing out brochures to 500 homes about Easter Extravaganza and our special Easter Services on April 21st.  The second event will be that of launching our regular Community Outreach Team for which we will be going out to individual homes to share the gospel every Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Deacons Meeting: The Deacons will be having a special two-hour meeting together on April 28th at 4:00 p.m. in room 101 of the Worship Center to talk about grief ministry.

Quilters and Crafters:  Our Sewing Group will be having their regular meeting on Saturday, April 27th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center.  Then, on April 30th, they will be going out on a Shopping Trip to Missouri Star Quilt in Hamilton, MO at 8:00 a.m.  Sounds like a great time.  Call Pat Breon or Brenda Collins for more information.  They are doing a great job!

Have a great week,

Pastor Randy

PS. We will be collecting non-perishable food items and cleaning products for the Food Pantry this Sunday at church.
