Word for the Week ~ 5/28/2019

I want to thank everyone who made our Special Memorial Day Service so wonderful.  It was meaningful, respectful, inspirational, and most of all, honoring to our Lord.  The music was great, and the flag ceremony was so meaningful.  We have definitely passed the half-way point of completing our series through the Book of Hebrews as we finished chapter six on last Sunday.  I am so impressed with how much our church has appreciated this incredible New Testament Book of the Bible.  Sunday we will be continuing our series in Hebrews 7:1-10 as we begin looking at one of the most mysterious men of the Bible—Melchizedek.

As we enter the month of June, the calendar is definitely full.  Besides all of the preparations that will go into Freedom Spectacular and Vacation Bible School this month, we have the Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham, Alabama, several weddings, three separate summer camps, the celebration of Father’s Day, a special Women’s First Thursday, and several new Men’s Ministries.  That should be enough to keep everyone busy.

No Memory Monday:  Our youth will be taking a break from Memory Monday this Summer until August when school kicks off again.

Prime Time (Senior Adult Choir) will meet today at 10:00 a.m., at Harmony Gardens to sing. The bus will not be running, so everyone will just meet directly at the nursing home.  This is a wonderful ministry of our church, and we would love for you to join with us.

Wednesday Night Supper/Haiti Report: This Wednesday night, May 29th, we will have our last Wednesday night supper beginning at 5:30 p.m., with our special Haiti Missions Report at 6:15 p.m. Be sure to come and hear the exciting testimonies of those who went.  The menu will be burritos, rice, salad, zesty corn salad, brownies, and ice cream.  The children will be having Wednesday Night Live (WNL) at 6:15 p.m.

Wednesday Night Summer Break: Don’t forget that we will be taking our regular break from our Wednesday night suppers/services until August when school starts back up. Back by popular demand, the youth will be enjoying Word on the Water on Wednesday nights over the summer months at the home of Dave and Margaret Kesinger. They will leave the church on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. and return at 8:00 p.m.  They will continue to meet every Sunday night over the summer at 6:00 p.m. for Youth Sunday in The Park.

Ministry Team Meeting:  This Wednesday night, May 29th, we will be having our regular Ministry Team Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in room 101 of the Family Life Center.

Prayer Updates:  Please remember the family of Norman Silkwood who went home to be with the Lord last Saturday.  The Celebration Service will be this Friday at 3:00 p.m. here at the church.  Please remember Rhonda McKee this week in the loss of her mother’s husband who passed away last week.  His funeral will be this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Warden Funeral Home in Lamar, MO.  Pray for J.R. White who is scheduled for surgery today at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza at 1:30 p.m.  Please pray for Drew Bailly, Tammy and Brian Reed’s nephew, whose leg was caught in a grain auger.  He has been transferred now to KU Medical Center for which they are trying to save his leg.  He most likely will lose his foot.  Please pray for Deb Scherer who had colon surgery yesterday to remove a blockage from scar tissue.  Pray for Belinda Milton who is still recovering at home from surgery two weeks ago.  Pray for Linda Hargenrader who is back to having her chemo treatments. Please pray for Kelly and Ronnie Crowden’s baby, Mackenzie Ann, who is at Children’s Hospital. Pray for Ray and Kelly Hargrave’s grand-daughter, Oakley, who is scheduled for surgery on June 14th. Pray for Jean Anderson who is scheduled for back surgery on June 28th at Saint Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.  Please pray for Denise Robinson’s brother-in-law, Kirk Smith, who is needing a lung transplant.  Please be in prayer for Katrina Butts, Ken Fowler’s niece, who was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Pennsylvania today.  The Deacon of the Week is Brian Ridge (660) 909-1598.

Men’s Ministry in June:  During the month of June, our Men’s Ministry will be very pro-active in ministering to both our church and its community.  This Saturday on June 1st, they will be offering a Basic Auto Safety Check from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the church parking lot.  Along with a free youth car wash, our men will be offering a free service of checking out your car for such things as oil and coolant leaks, worn tires, frayed belts, leaky hoses, gasoline leaks, and exhaust leaks, etc. Just come by the church parking lot and get your free check. In addition, our men will be kicking off a New Senior Ministry for those needing assistance with work around their homes in June.  Call the church office to get signed up.  On Friday, June 7th, our Men’s Ministry will also be having a Men’s BBQ in the Family Life Center at 6:00 p.m. All men are invited. Father’s Day:  On June 16th we will be having a special Father’s Day Service honoring our dads.  There will be a special gift for all of our fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, etc.  We will also be offering another opportunity to have Baby Dedication for anyone who did not get to participate on Mother’s Day.  Plan now to attend this special family day of worship.  On the Sunday prior to Father’s Day on June 9th, we will be having Donuts With Dads in the preschool department at 9:00 a.m.
