Word for the Week ~ 7/15/2019
Sunday was quite a day for the 415 worshipers who attended. Our worship was great as we witnessed the ordinance of baptism in both services. The music was very well chosen for the message. It was wonderful to see several recommitments being made, but also bitter-sweet as we said goodbye to several of our military members who are preparing to move away. The Healey family is moving to the Las Vegas area, and Thomas Music is leaving for Japan as he has just enlisted in the military. The Healey’s have been here since 2010, and Thomas grew up in our youth group.
As most of you know, Sunday morning was just the beginning of a great day. Last night was the beginning of Vacation Bible School which is going on all week long thru Friday night. We had a great start last night with over a hundred people here to both lead and participate in VBS. It is always an exciting week, and this year is proving to be pretty “Wild” as the very word describes the theme for the week. VBS begins every night at 6:00 p.m. and finishes up at 8:45 p.m. Friday will conclude with a both Family Night and fun-filled Pool Party at the Community Center. It is not too late for you to invite and bring a child, grandchild, neighbor or nephew or niece tonight to VBS. I hope to see you there.
Prime Time (Senior Adult Choir) will meet tomorrow, July 15th, at 10:00 a.m. at Warrensburg Manor to sing. The bus will leave the parking lot at 9:50 a.m. This is a wonderful ministry of our church, and we would love for you to join with us.
Taco Tuesday: A group of men have been gathering for some time now on Tuesdays at noon to share a time of food and fellowship. It has traditionally been at one of our Mexican food establishments, but this week they will be meeting at Zaxby’s at noon. We have decided to make this more inclusive, so we are going to open this up to all of the men in our church and place it under our Men’s Ministry. Please feel free to join if your schedule allows and bring a friend. We generally meet for just an hour, but some do stay longer.
There will be no “Word on the Water” this Wednesday night due to the youth participating in Vacation Bible School. They will pick back up with their Wednesday night activities next week.
Prayer Updates: Pray for Linda Hargenrader who is back to having her chemo treatments. Pray for Jean Anderson who is home after having back surgery two weeks ago. Please pray for Denise Robinson’s brother-in-law, Kirk Smith, who is needing a lung transplant. Pray for Josh Robinson and his wife, Andrea, as they are expecting a baby in November. Pray for Denise Robinson’s mother, Doris Jane Stoner, who just got out of the hospital and is going through rehabilitation at Sunterra Springs Rehab Center in Independence. Please remember May Marie Irwin who has been placed under care of Hospice at Country Club Care Center. Please be in prayer for Hal Hanrahan as he prepares to undergo several treatments. Pray for Spencer Parrish who has been diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. He has an appointment with an oncologist this week. Pray for Helen Roth who was in the Hospital this last week. Please pray for Terry Hayden who had a pacemaker put in last week at Saint Luke’s East Hospital. Pray for Sherry Collins who will be having shoulder surgery on July 25th at Saint Luke’s East Hospital. The Deacon of the Week is Gene Short (816) 585-4215.
Attention Pathfinders: Our senior adults will be going to Zaxby’s this Thursday, July 18th, at 5:00 p.m. Since it is in town, we will just meet there. Let’s try to get our food ordered at 4:45 p.m. so that those working in Vacation Bible School will have plenty of time to get to their classes.
Sunday Night Youth: Our youth will be meeting this Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. for their regular time of worship and fellowship in the Park.
Food Pantry Date: This Sunday on July 21st we will once again be collecting non-perishable food items, paper products, and cleaning supplies for the Food Pantry.
Community Outreach will be meeting again this Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Faith Riders: Our motorcycle ministry is scheduled to have its next ride a week from this Thursday on July 25th. We will meet in the church parking lot at 6:00 p.m., and then ride to El Tapatio in Sedalia for a great time of fellowship together.
Quilters & Crafters: Saturday, July 27th, the sewing group will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Bring your projects, supplies, sewing machine, and questions for fun, fellowship, and learning. Call Pat Breon for more information at (660) 909-3924.
Hope you have a great week,
