Word for the Week ~ 7/8/2019

Sunday:  I have often begun my articles with “Sunday was a great day,”  but today I think I will say that Sunday was a DRY day.  Lol. We got over 8 inches of rain last week in just two days, so I am happy to say that for both yesterday and today, we are dry.  It was wonderful to see young Elijah Cicle come forward to confess his faith publicly in the second service Sunday.  We are planning to baptize him and two others next Sunday in the second service.  We also had a great turnout yesterday afternoon for Community Outreach!  Praise God that we are a church that believes in reaching people!

Freedom Spectacular/Fireworks Update:  We had a surprisingly good turnout for Freedom Spectacular in spite of the rain.  We were able to enjoy all of the festivities with the exception of the Fireworks.  It was our intent, in the event of rain, to shoot off the fireworks on Friday, but with all of the cancellations, Pyrotechnics was unable to come Friday night to do the event.  So, we must decide to reschedule the fireworks at a later date.  The date will be planned and discussed in our next Ministry Team Meeting on July 24th, as to whether to schedule something this year or wait until July 4th 2020.  I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make Freedom Spectacular this year a special event in the life of our church and community.  Great job!

Next Sunday will be another great day as we will be kicking off Vacation Bible School (July 14-19; 6:00-8:45 p.m.). The theme this year is “In The Wild.” Plan now to bring your child or grandchild or neighbor child to join us for what will prove to be a lot of fun.  We will be having a Pool Party at the Community Center at 6:45 p.m. right after VBS Family night on Friday night, July 19th at 6:00 p.m.  Don’t miss out!  Call now to get your child enrolled, or you can do so online at www.GroverPark.org/VBS

Journey Group: The Journey Group will be meeting tonight at the church at 6:00 p.m. to head over to the home of Jeannie and Odes Campbell for dinner and discussion. Call Rhonda McKee for more information.

Our senior adult choir (Prime Time) will be performing for the Golden Agers at FBC Warrensburg tomorrow.  Prime Time members should be at FBC no later than 10:15am. There will be no bus.

Life Workshop: This Tuesday night, on July 9th, we will be having our next Life Workshop for all Sunday School workers and leaders at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Come and be refreshed in your spirits and heart. Call Pastor Logan for more information.

Our Youth will be gathering tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. here at the church for a workday in the Park and to go out and hand out fliers for VBS.  On Wednesday night they will be gathering again for Word on the Water from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Our thanks go to Dave and Margaret Kesinger for the use of their home and pool.

Missions Committee:  The Missions Committee will be meeting this Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.

Prayer Updates: Ken Fowler is now home from Monterey Park Rehabilitation Health Care Center and doing better. Pray for Linda Hargenrader who is back to having her chemo treatments. Pray for Jean Anderson who came home yesterday after having back surgery in the city.  I got to visit her last week.  Please pray for Denise Robinson’s brother-in-law, Kirk Smith, who is needing a lung transplant. Pray for Josh Robinson and his wife, Andrea, as they are expecting a baby in November and doing some early precautionary tests. Please remember May Marie Irwin who has been placed under care of Hospice at Country Club Care Center. Please be in prayer for Hal Hanrahan as he prepares to undergo several treatments. Heidi Mersman is back home from the hospital in Columbia.  Don Boosinger had surgery last Wednesday to have some kidney stones removed.  He is home doing better and will be having his stent removed on July 16th.  Pray for Dorothy Fox who is at Harmony Gardens having issues. Pray for Spencer Parrish who has been diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma.  He has a PET Scan tomorrow morning.  The Deacon of the Week is Stan Dollar (660) 864-4255.

Sunday Night Youth:  Our youth will not be meeting this Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. for their regular time of worship and fellowship in the Park due to their participation in Vacation Bible School.  They will also not be meeting for Word on the Water on Wednesday night, July 17th.

Food Pantry Date:  On July 21st we will once again be collecting non-perishable food items, paper products, and cleaning supplies for the Food Pantry.  Sharon Seigel has agreed to serve as our new Food Pantry representative.

Quilters & Crafters: Saturday, July 27th, the sewing group will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Bring your projects, supplies, sewing machine, and questions for fun, fellowship, and learning. Call Pat Breon for more information at (660) 909-3924.

Have a great week,

Pastor Randy
