Word for the Week ~ 8/10/2020

Greetings,

Sunday was a good day of worship and praise.  Once again, we had fantastic attendance both online and in person, and spirits were high.  The music was great, and I especially liked the arrangement of the postlude.  I was so taken by it that I stood there after the service and listened to the whole thing again.  I heard it in the first set, but the postlude arrangement was really special for me.   Next Sunday, we will be continuing in chapter eight of Second Corinthians. Be sure to download the outline attached in this Friday’s email. Don’t forget to watch Grover Kid’s Club House, which meets Sundays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live.

Facial Covering Mandate:  The Johnson County Community Health Services Board’s mandate for wearing facial coverings in public places will end on Friday, August 21st, assuming it is not extended again.  Watch for updates!

Pray for the Nominating Committee which met yesterday, and will be continuing to pray and plan for next year’s new slate of workers.  They do a great job!

The Journey will be meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. here at the church for Bible Study and discussion. They will be continuing their new mini-series entitled, “Behold the God Man.”  Speaking of college students, we are excited about our new BSU Director at UCM, Jerome Stockert.  I got to meet him last week, and he is a really great guy.   As I shared before, Benjamin Kirtley will be serving as a Campus Ministry Assistant.  The BSU is planning to have an Ice Cream Social on August 16th at 7:00 p.m., and a Back To School Burger Bash on August 20th at 6:00 p.m. to welcome all of the new students.  As the semester gets started, they will be meeting again on Tuesday nights at 6:00 p.m. this semester for church sponsored dinners.  Their Worship Service will be on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. this year.

Special Prayer Request: As we think about our college students starting back next week on August 17th and our Warrensburg public schools getting started on August 26th, please pray for our teachers, administrators, and students as they prepare for the fall semester ahead.

Sunday School Start Up:  Sunday School is slated to start back up on September 13th at 10:30 a.m. with four large-room classes. This will serve as a transitional format for moving back into our original Sunday School program. Three of these classes will be based around our three Lifeway Sunday School materials (Gospel Project, Bible Studies for Life, and Explore the Bible.) The fourth class will be a special hybrid class for young families with children taught on Sunday nights at 5:00 p.m.   Pray for our Sunday School leaders as they will be meeting this Tuesday night, August 11th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center to work out the details of our fall Sunday School program.

Missions Committee:  The Missions Committee will meet this Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in room 101 of the Worship Center to plan for the fall semester ahead.

Associational Meeting:  We will be sponsoring the quarterly Executive Board meeting for the West Central Baptist Association this Thursday, August 13th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.

Board of Director’s Meeting:  We will be having our regular Board of Director’s meeting Wednesday night, August 19th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.

Faith Riders will be having their monthly ride on Thursday, August 20th, at 6:00 p.m. Weather permitting, we will be riding to Sedalia to eat at El Tapatio on their outdoor patio.  It will serve as an excellent place to socially distance ourselves.

Prayer Updates:  Pray for Casey Johnson as she recovers from surgery last week at Bothwell Hospital.  Pray for her sister, Enid Nossaman, as well.  Pray for Kelly Crowden who had a heart attack last week.  She is home doing better.  Pray for Mark Watts who has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.  He has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.  Pray for Jerrell Votaw and his family in the passing of his sister, Debra Dart.  The service was last Wednesday.  Remember Ginger Doerflinger as she recovers at home from her hip replacement and a broken pelvis from the procedure that was just discovered.   We are thankful that David Thompson got to come home last week.  Pray for Hal Hanrahan as he prepares for his fourth of six chemotherapy treatments.  Please pray for Jackie Baxter (Kevine Colburn’s mother) who is home recovering from a stroke.  Pray for Kevin and Kevine as they minister and care for her.  Pray for Linda Hargenrader as she continues her infusions.  Pray for Ken Fowler as he is struggling with his sugar levels.  Pray for Andy Cicle’s Mother who had several extensive surgeries this week and will have another in two weeks.  Pray for our schools, teachers, students, and workers.  Pray for Victoria as she has begun her training.  Our Deacon of the Week is Chuck Samson (660) 909-1503.

Quilters & Crafters: The sewing group will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center on August 22nd.  Bring your projects, supplies, sewing machine, and questions for fun, fellowship, and learning. Call Pat Breon for more information at (918) 906-1037.

North Street Landscape:  Our many thanks go to Larry and Lois Dillingham for the great job they have done in beautifying the landscape in front of the old worship center on North Street.  Check it out!

Have a good week ahead.

Pastor Randy
