Word for the Week ~ 8/5/2019

Greetings,

Sunday was a wonderful day for the 406 worshipers who joined us.  It was good to see a number of visitors and to have Betty Jo Black come forward in the first service to join the church.   The music just keeps getting better as we move into the final stretch of our series through the Book of Hebrews.  As we came to appreciate Sunday the principle of how God sometimes chastens His children, next Sunday we will be picking back up at Hebrews 12:12 with the words, “Therefore strengthen your hands that hang down and your knees that are feeble, and make straight the paths of your feet…and be healed.”  Wow!

Special Praise Night:  As I shared last week, mark your calendar for Sunday, August 18th, at 6:00 p.m. to join the fun, fellowship, and worship as we sing and listen to our favorite hymns and worship songs in the Worship Center.  Special selections from Worship Team Members and Primetime singers will be included. The service will be followed by a homemade ice cream social in the Family Life Center. Bring your favorite ice cream and join the fun.

Back To School:  Our students in Warrensburg will be starting back to school on August 15th and our college students at UCM will be starting back on August 19th.  That means that our children will be advancing to their new Sunday School classes on Sunday, August 11th, and Memory Monday will be kicking off on August 19th.  The youth will be having a Back To School Bash on Friday night, August 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. in The Park, and our Grover Kids will be having a Back To School Bash on Saturday, August 24th from 1:00–3:00 p.m. in The Park.

One of the exciting things about August is that we will be starting our Wednesday Night Dinners and Bible Studies back up on August 21st at 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. respectively. Call now to get on the permanent reservation list if you wish to do so for supper.  Wednesday Night Live (WNL) will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Children’s Center. The youth will be having Life Academy at 6:15 in The Park. Nursery is also provided in the extended foyer of the Worship Center.

As you heard Sunday from Beth Talley, our Annual Women’s Retreat is coming up on September 6-8th. The study is entitled, “At the Feet of Jesus–Finding Intimacy With God.” The retreat will take place at Heit’s Point in Lincoln, MO for a great weekend of fellowship, food, fun, and renewal.  An indoor pool will be available.  The cost is $110.00. Scholarships are available. Call the church office (660) 747-7196 or Beth Talley (618) 803-9715 for more information.  The deadline for signing up is August 25th.  Online Registration is available at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScPO6D-zHhwkprMoSJ0fMCzCBwmepTh_kVxtAr16gh-PHnAZQ/viewform.

Our Men’s Fall Retreat has also been set for October 18-19th at Camp Galilee in Eldorado Springs, MO.  The theme of the retreat will be “Running Well”, taken from 1 Corinthians 9:24, and will be led by Logan Williams. The cost is only $25.00 per person with supper at Smith’s Restaurant in Collins on the way there. We will leave the church at 5:30 p.m. on October 18th and eat at Smith’s at 6:30 p.m. We will return from the retreat by 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer. Contact Greg Greer or Steve Fox for more information.

Our Journey Group will be meeting at the church tonight at 6:00 p.m. to head over to the home of Rhonda McKee for dinner and discussion.  On August 19th they will begin meeting for the first time on a weekly basis on Monday nights with the In-home Suppers continuing every other week, and a new alternate Monday night meeting at the church.

Speaking of our college students, the BSU will be having its Back To School Burger Bash on Thursday night, August 22nd at 5:30 p.m.  Then, on August 27th, we will be preparing dinner for the BSU at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to help prepare or serve this meal, call Debbie Weigand at (660) 909-4930.
